Dwight, Dirk Named Conference Players of the Week

November 30, 2010

Congrats gentlemen. Keep up the good work.

From Examiner:

Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard and Dallas Mavericks’ forward Dirk Nowitzki have been named Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week for their impressive work done during November 22nd and November 28th.

The Thanksgiving holiday week was very good to the consistent Magic with Howard, the Eastern Conference Player of the Week, leading the team to a 3-1 record behind 26.3 points and 14.5 rebounds in four games.

After posting 26 points, 18 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 blocks against the Southwest Division leading San Antonio Spurs last Monday night in a 106-97 loss, Howard marshaled the Magic to three consecutive wins against the Heat, Cavs, and Wizards.

On the year, Howard is averaging a career-best 22.6 points a game showcasing a visibly improved low-post game this season. Luckily his newfound offensive repertoire has not affected his field goal percentage as he is still shooting a torrid 59.8-percent from the floor.

In his last contest, Howard saved the Magic (12-4) from an embarrassing defeat to the hands of the John Wall-less Wizards with a putback on an offensive rebound late in the game to give Orlando a slim 100-99 victory from the Verizon Center in Washington D.C.

Howard would finish with 32 points and 11 rebounds on the night shooting 12 of 19 from the floor.

Dirk Nowitzki, the Western Conference Player of the Week, led the Mavs to a 4-0 record during the week averaging 31 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists on 57.3-percent shooting from the field.

Nowitzki kicked off the Thanksgiving holiday week of play with a bang posted an incredible 42 points and 12 rebounds against the Pistons in an 88-84 victory. On the night the 7-0 German-born forward knocked down 13 of 23 shots and was 3 of 3 from three-point range.

Just a few nights later in an early season battle of Southwest Divisional rivals, Dirk efficiently dissected the Spurs defense to the tune of 26 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists on 12 of 14 shooting in a huge 103-94 victory from the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas.

The Mavericks (12-4) are currently riding a pretty impressive hot streak with key victories over Atlanta, OKC, Miami and San Antonio thanks in no small part to the efficient play of their All-Star power forward Dirk Nowitzki.
